June 18: Summer Program Soars

Y.O.U.’s ambitious summer program expansion kicked off on Monday, June 18 with over 175 youth enrolled at four program sites. This nine week program, offered at no cost to families, engages youth for five to seven hours daily in enrichment activities organized around the arts, science, math, technology, recreation and health.

Thanks to our generous donors and community partners, we are expanding our impact this summer in three major ways.

First, we are more than doubling the number of youth served by our summer programs.

Second, we are dramatically expanding the time and length of our summer programs. Last year’s elementary program, for example, was four hours a day for four weeks. This year’s program will be seven hours a day for nine weeks.

Third, we are incorporating innovative new curriculum into the program such as YouSTEM, a hands-on and exploratory approach to learning about science and technology being pioneered by partners at Northwestern University.

Y.O.U. thanks the many generous donors who are helping make this a summer of success for Evanston youth, as well as the extraordinary partnership of Districts 65 and 202, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the McGaw YMCA, and Northwestern University.
