About Us

Our mission: Youth & Opportunity United, Inc. (Y.O.U.) is a youth development agency that provides services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in our community.

Our vision: It is our goal that all young people acquire the skills, self-confidence, and opportunity to participate fully, freely, and responsibly in the life of the community.

Y.O.U. serves over 1,600 youth and reaches over 4,000 family members each year through three integrated strategies:

1. Out-of-School Time Learning: We provide daily afterschool and summer learning programs at eleven high-need schools across Evanstn and Skokie. Youth receive individualized academic assistance, participate in experiential learning programs, learn life skills, and enjoy high-quality recreational, social, and emotional enrichment activities.

2. Mental Health Counseling and Outreach: We deliver thousands of hours of mental health counseling each year to youth in our progrmas through goup therapy sessions, case management, crisis intervention, and individual and family counseling.

3. Parental Leadership and Engagement: We support parents and caregivers in creating safe, healthy, and nurturing homes by engaging thme in monthly family nights, leadership development opportunities, and peer learning exchanges.

"Y.O.U. is a vital partner in the City’s efforts to make sure that all youth in our community are safe and healthy. More than 40 years after a group of Evanston civic leaders first envisioned Y.O.U., it remains an indispensable resource for hundreds of Evanston youth and their families."
